B. Information Collected Automatically (Usage Data)
We automatically collect certain technical information when you interact with our service to help us understand usage patterns, diagnose problems, and ensure security:
- Log Data: Information such as your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, operating system, the pages you visit on our service, the time and date of your visit, time spent on pages, and other diagnostic data.
- API Usage Metadata: For interactions involving APIs (ours or proxied third-party ones), we store minimal metadata like user ID, timestamp, success/error status, and usage statistics (e.g., token counts where applicable) for operational, security, and billing purposes. As stated elsewhere, API keys and query content are not stored.
We strive to only collect data that is necessary for the functioning, maintenance, and improvement of Play Role.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for various purposes, focused on providing and enhancing your experience with Play Role:
- To Provide and Maintain the Service: We use your Account Data, Character Data, Chat Data, Settings Data, and Usage Data to operate the core functionalities of Play Role, including storing your characters and conversations, delivering chat responses, and ensuring the platform runs smoothly.
- To Manage Your Account and Provide Support: Your Account Data and Communications data are used to authenticate you, manage your profile, respond to your support requests, and troubleshoot issues you may encounter.
- To Process Transactions: When you engage in paid features, Payment Data is processed by our secure third-party payment providers to complete your transactions.
- To Improve and Personalize the Service: We analyze Usage Data and Settings Data to understand how users interact with Play Role. This helps us identify areas for improvement, fix bugs, develop new features, and potentially personalize aspects of the service to better suit user preferences. Aggregated and anonymized data may be used for broader service enhancement insights.
- For Security and Operational Monitoring: Log Data, API Usage Metadata, and Account Data are crucial for monitoring the service for security threats, preventing fraud and abuse, ensuring platform integrity, enforcing our terms, and diagnosing technical problems.
- To Communicate with You: We may use your Account Data (primarily your email address) to send important service-related announcements, updates to our terms or policies, security alerts, or other essential administrative messages. We do not use this for third-party marketing.
- To Comply with Legal Obligations: We may need to use or disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).
We are committed to transparency and responsible data use. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
5. Third-Party Services and AI Providers
Play Role may integrate with or link to third-party websites, services, and applications that are not operated by us. This includes optional integrations with third-party AI generation providers that you may configure using your own API keys or select through our service.
When you use features that rely on these external AI providers (such as generating chat responses or other content), your data (e.g., prompts derived from chat input, character definitions) will necessarily be transmitted to that provider. Examples of such providers might include, but are not limited to, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini), OpenRouter AI, and others you might configure via API.
As detailed in Section 7, we handle your API keys securely and do not store them on our servers. However, once your data is transmitted to a third-party AI provider at your direction, it is subject to that provider's own privacy policy and data handling practices.
Disclaimer: We strongly advise you to review the privacy policies and terms of service of any third-party AI provider or website you interact with through Play Role. Play Role has no control over, and assumes no responsibility or liability for, the content, privacy policies, security practices, data breaches, data storage, or misuse of data by any third-party sites or services, including AI generation providers.
6. User Content and Data Sharing
You retain ownership of the content, including text and images, that you create and share using Play Role. However, by using the service, you grant certain licenses as described below.
A. License Granted to Play Role for Public Content
When you submit, post, or display content designated as "public" (e.g., public characters, public chat contributions), you grant Play Role a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license. This license allows us to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations, or other changes necessary to make your content work better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display, and distribute your public content.
The rights you grant in this license are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This license continues even if you stop using our Services, primarily for operational reasons like maintaining backups or displaying content shared publicly.
B. License Granted to Other Users for Public Content
Content you designate as "public" will be accessible to other users of the Play Role service.
By making content public, you grant every other user of Play Role a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This license allows other users to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material) your public content for any purpose, even commercially.
A key condition of the CC BY 4.0 license is attribution: users reusing your public content must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Please review the full license details for specific terms.
C. Private Content (Characters and Chats)
Content designated as "private" will be treated confidentially. We will only access private content as strictly necessary to provide the service to your account (e.g., for technical support requested by you or system maintenance) and will not share it or use it for other purposes. This includes storing your private chat messages securely so that you can access and review your conversation history within the Play Role service.
No license is granted to Play Role or other users for your private content beyond what is minimally required to operate the service for your account and display your stored data back to you.
7. API Usage and Third-Party Keys
When you interact with our API or configure the service to use a third-party AI provider via an API key, we prioritize the security and privacy of your information.
Your third-party API keys (e.g., for external AI completion providers) are stored locally in your browser's storage. They are never permanently stored on Play Role's servers.
When you initiate a request that requires your key, it is transmitted securely over HTTPS directly to our server solely for that specific transaction. Our server acts only as a secure proxy: it routes the key to the designated third-party provider to fulfill your request but does not log, store, or track the API key itself in any way.
Consistent with our general policy, the actual content of your API queries (inputs and outputs) is also not logged or stored by Play Role. We only retain minimal, non-identifiable operational metadata (like timestamps and usage statistics) for service maintenance and billing purposes.
8. Children's Privacy
Play Role is not intended for or directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18.
If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data without your consent, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 18 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
9. AI Model Training & Opt-In Policy
9.1 No Internal Training by Default
PlayRole does not use your Personal Data, Character Data, Chat Data, or any other content you create or upload to train, fine-tune, or otherwise improve our own or any third-party machine-learning or AI models. This commitment is consistent with our existing approach of limiting data retention and avoiding storage of prompt or completion content beyond what is needed to provide the service .
9.2 Aggregated Operational Metrics Only
We may analyze high-level, anonymized statistics (for example, total token counts or average latency) solely to monitor performance and plan capacity. These metrics cannot be linked back to any individual user, character, or conversation.
9.3 Future Changes Require Explicit Opt-In
Should PlayRole ever wish to use user-provided content for model training in the future, we will:
Give at least 30 days prior notice via email and a prominent in-app banner; and provide a clear, affirmative opt-in mechanism. Your data will remain excluded from all training activities unless and until you expressly opt in.
9.4 No Third-Party Disclosure for Training
Even with opt-in, PlayRole will never sell or transfer user data to external model vendors for their own training purposes unless we obtain separate, explicit authorization from you.
10. Contact Us
